International Nurses Day 2023
Today, May 12 2023, we pay tribute to our 1450+ nurses across Aurora Healthcare. They play a vital role in our service delivery to over 120,000 patients and 1 million hours of care over the last 12 months.
Our nurses do an incredible job every day caring for our patients, leading our services, engaging in service development and innovation, and ensuring that our patients receive high quality, safe and effective treatment as an inpatient, in our day patient programs, and from our outreach community services.
They embody all the values that are at the very core of Aurora Healthcare.
Watch in the videos below our nurses from across Australia share with you their thoughts about their profession and their passion for what they do. It’s a pleasure to hear their perspectives.
You can also take your time reading each of our nurses' reflections below.

Tung
Belmont Private Hospital
After 15yrs of mental health nursing, I remain very passionate and fascinated with caring for others. I am still learning and fine-tuning my skills to better myself. My cousin struggled with depression for most of her life and she succumbed to depression by taking her life. I was fortunate enough to know her as a person. My goal is to get to know my patients as human beings (their personalities, their likes, and dislikes, their dreams and aspirations) and look past a person's mental illness.

Jo
South Coast Private Hospital
I love being a nurse as no day is the same and there is always something to learn. We get to work with patients when they are most vulnerable, and we get to help them feel safe and that they are cared for. We get to make a difference in someone’s life.

Vanessa
Currumbin Clinic
Being a nurse always has its challenges but the rewards far outweigh this. Working in mental health and knowing you have been able to support someone in obtaining beneficial treatment and support makes it all worthwhile.

Ashiana
Westmead Rehabilitation Hospital
What I love about being a rehab nurse is that I really love being part of unique team and making a difference in someone’s life.
I find it very rewarding offering individualised care, empathy to both the patient and family and ultimately assisting the patient in restoring their optimal function and health by sitting down with them and setting goals with them to adapt to their new way of life.
It is also important to me as a nurse that a patient has a positive experience and that the patient is able to provide this feedback during and after their in-patient stay.
