Professional background

Dr Sanjay Gangadharan is a Specialist Geriatrician. He completed his undergraduate degree (MBBS) and his postgraduate (MD Internal Medicine) in India. He moved to Australia to commence his Physician training at John Hunter Hospital and completed this at the Sunshine Coast.

Dr Gangadharan is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians. His interests include Comprehensive Geriatric assessment, cognitive dysfunction, behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), Capacity assessments, geriatric syndromes with complex medical issues, pre-operative assessments and nursing home assessments of complex dementia patients.

Dr Gangadharan’s special interest is Parkinson’s Disease in the older person – assessment and management of motor and non-motor complications and targeted rehabilitation.

Dr Gangadharan trained at the Maurice-Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute, Kings College Hospital, London. He remains associated with King’s College Hospital through his clinical research in Parkinson’s Disease as a Senior Research fellow. He has 16 research publications and international presentations in the field of Parkinson’s Disease. He is affiliated to the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, Melbourne as a Principal Research Fellow. He is involved in undergraduate and post-graduate medical education as a Senior Lecturer with the School of Clinical Medicine, University of Queensland and Griffith University.

In his time away from work, Dr Gangadharan enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and playing cricket with his boys.
