Dr Sharat Lal

Dr Sharat Lal is consultant psychiatrist at South Coast Private Hospital. He is also a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Wollongong's Graduate School of Medicine. Dr Sharat Lal has been a large contributing community member to the Illawarra health sector. Some of his past roles include, Director of Training in Psychiatry for the Illawarra Area Health Services, Acting Chief Psychiatrist for the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District and Medical Superintendent of the Wollongong and Shellharbour Hospital.

He was a key driver in the implementation of the mental health unit in Wollongong. From an early age Dr Sharat Lal has had an interest in why people think a certain way and medicine. 

With the combination of the two he knew Psychiatry was the ideal profession to pursue. His special Psychiatry interests are general, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, transgender, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), adult ADHD, depression and anxiety. When Dr Sharat Lal is not working he is giving back to the community.

He is currently involved with the Refugee Action Collective Illawarra and also takes Telehealth patients.
