How to get a referral to our hospitals

Your mental and physical health and wellness is a journey we take with you.

How to get admitted to one of our hospitals

Aurora’s local healthcare specialists take the time to understand your unique mental and physical needs, and provide a selection  of innovative treatment options, to support you on your path to better health.

The following steps are required to be admitted to our hospitals for mental health support.

Get a referral

You will require a referral from your GP or treating doctor, to a psychiatrist with admitting rights to your Aurora hospital of choice

Assessment of referral

Once our hospital receives your referral, the hospital admissions and assessment team will give you a call to conduct an over-the-phone assessment.

We will require and check your insurer details during this assessment (this includes health funds, workers compensation insurer or other). You can also self-fund if applicable.

Following this assessment, we will then discuss your referral with a psychiatrist with admitting rights. This is a psychiatrist who consults to our hospital under their own independent business.

Acceptance of referral

Once your eligibility is confirmed for admission to our hospital, you will be contacted to arrange your admission date. Transfer will then be arranged for your care and management to a psychiatrist with admitting rights.
