Professional background
Laura Palamara is a psychologist and clinical psychology registrar. She provides individual therapy and facilitates group programs at South Coast Private Hospital. Her work is a mix of several therapeutic modalities, including Psychodynamic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP).
Laura’s practice focuses on fostering a safe therapeutic relationship where clients feel free to express, explore, and understand themselves and the challenges they face. She supports a wide range of clients, including those navigating mood, anxiety, trauma, personality, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Her clinical experience includes working with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, anxiety, dissociation, eating disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and persistent interpersonal difficulties.
Central to Laura’s work is her person-centred approach. She prioritises collaborating with clients in ways that feel true to the clients’ needs and lived experiences. Because of this, she believes in fitting the client, rather than making the client fit therapy. Outside of work, Laura enjoys reading, writing, and drawing. She is very fond of plants and has a good laugh whenever possible.
