Professional background

Dr Matthew Ryan joined Deakin Private as a Psychiatrist in April 2025. He graduated from ANU Medical School in 2016 and has practised in Canberra ever since, gaining experience working across both public and private services. 

Dr Ryan's interest areas include complex trauma-related disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, and perinatal mental health. His approach is centred on recovery and psychodynamic-orientated practice, collaborating closely with the individuals under his care, their families, and their referring health professionals to develop tailored management plans. 

Dr Ryan provides care to individuals over 18 years, offering comprehensive psychiatric assessments, medication reviews, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. He is also in the process of obtaining certification in repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS).
