Dr Stuart Allison

Professional background

Dr Stuart Allison is a consultant psychiatrist at South Coast Private Hospital seeing both inpatient and outpatients two days per week and is also a Community Psychiatrist for the public sector, where he is responsible for overseeing doctors training to become specialist psychiatrists.

He has undertaken 5 years as a psychiatry registrar in the Illawarra in posts including high dependency, general adult psychiatry, adolescent inpatients, consultation-liaison, older persons inpatient, mental health rehabilitation, and emergency settings. Dr Allison was a research scholarship recipient in 2012 where he studied the delays in receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer patients.

Dr Allison chose psychiatry due to a fascination with the human mind but also because he felt that most human problems have a psychological dimension. He wanted to use his medical training to bring about change in an area where he felt there was a significant burden of suffering, disadvantage and stigma.

He has a special interest in the interface of personality and mental illness. During his free time, he enjoys music, art and outdoor activities

Please note that Dr. Allison does not accept new referrals for ADHD assessments or provide medico-legal reports.
