Sleep Conditions

Tossing and turning or waking frequently during the night? You’re not alone. Having trouble sleeping or having disturbed sleep is a common experience. Sleep difficulties, also referred to as insomnia, can include trouble getting to sleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early and not getting back to sleep. Insomnia can affect the sense of wellbeing, mood, energy levels, health, productivity, and functioning.

How common is it?

A survey of Australian adults in 2019 found that around 60% reported one or more sleep difficulty three or more times a week. Older adults tend to have difficulties with staying asleep, while younger adults have more trouble getting to sleep.
