Professional background
Dr Mushtaq Mohiuddin (MBBS, FRANZCP, FRCPC, Cert Add Psych) is an experienced Adult Psychiatrist with expertise in veterans’ mental health, trauma-related disorders including post-traumatic stress disorder, adjustment disorders and grief, alcohol and substance use disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, neurostimulation, and psychotherapy.
Dr Mohiuddin has a particular interest in medicolegal psychiatry and provides independent psychiatric assessments and treating psychiatric reports for veterans pursuing Department of Veterans’ Affairs claims, individuals involved in workers’ compensation matters, and those engaged in civil litigation and personal injury claims.
Dr Mohiuddin has worked extensively in the public sector as a Consultant Psychiatrist within Community Forensic Mental Health Services and Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Services, but is now in full-time private practice. In addition to his general adult psychiatric training, he completed a Certificate of Advanced Training in Addiction Psychiatry through the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and also holds Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Dr Mohiuddin is a Certified Independent Medical Examiner through the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners and serves as a Senior Lecturer at James Cook University.
Having been involved with Townsville Private Clinic since its early establishment, Dr Mohiuddin now holds the position of Director of Medical Services. He is committed to providing holistic, evidence-based care through a personalised and collaborative approach. His clinical strengths include establishing strong therapeutic relationships while integrating biological, psychological, and psychotherapeutic treatment strategies tailored to the individual needs of each patient.
Outside of clinical practice, Dr Mohiuddin enjoys reading, travelling, and sport. He is actively involved in several local sporting clubs and values the importance of maintaining wellbeing through a healthy balance of mind, body, and spirit.
