Dr Bronwyn Shanahan

Dr Bronwyn Shanahan is a Consultant Psychiatrist with sub-speciality training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr Shanahan is passionate about youth mental health and offers a holistic approach to caring for her patients in a collaborative environment. She has extensive skills and experience to enhance the care, support and recovery of Children, Adolescents and Young Adult Populations.

Dr Shanahan obtained her Fellowship with Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from The Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) in 2024. She has a wide range of health science experience, having graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2015 as well as a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (first class Honours) in 2010. Throughout her training, Dr Shanahan has worked across inpatient and outpatient settings in public and private sectors.

With a deep-seated understanding of the impact of mental health issues, Dr Shanahan uses a biopsychosocial framework to assess, diagnose and treat. Recognising Psychiatry as a unique combination of science and art, she uses various treatment modalities including family and carer interventions, psychotherapy and where appropriate the judicious use of medications. She has an appreciation for cultural diversity and equal opportunity and advocates for all to reach their full potential through patient-centred care principles.

Dr Shanahan also works in the public mental health sector in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry on the Gold Coast. Dr Shanahan is involved in university teaching, trainee education and is an advocate for research in the field of Youth Mental Health.

Currently, Dr Shanahan offers outpatient consultations from private practice at Robina Private Hospital.
