Orthopaedics today involves the care of the musculoskeletal system of the human body. The musculoskeletal system is responsible for every movement a person makes, from raising an arm to more complex tasks like running, jumping, surfing or dancing. It involves bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles and nerves. When something goes wrong with the musculoskeletal system, a person's range of motion or ability to move can be impacted.
Orthopaedic conditions are injuries and diseases that affect the musculoskeletal system. Damage to any of these tissues or structures can come from chronic orthopaedic diseases or from an injury.
